JULIETTE MOTTIER
PORTFOLIO
Since the start of the 2019 school year I am a student at ESADSE, a higher school of art and design in St-Étienne. I am now in my 4th year in the Graphic Design master.
In my practice I am very interested in crafts.
I like to build with my hands, to touch different materials, to experiment with different skills to get closer to my idea.
I make sure to see my ideas from several angles, transpose them in 2D, 3D, color, black and white, make tests, superimpose them, combine...
I am also attracted by the notion of preciousness, the discovery of elements and details that make an object, not its price, but its value.
COUNTERFORM
GRAPHISM
These counter-forms are the result of a work around the typography. These empty spaces between each letter take on a whole new meaning when they are isolated.

EDITING
Iconography bringing together some of the references that nourish my work. This edition is presented in two forms; bound or displayed.
STAGE
Atelier 10
Shared workshop of artists and craftsmen managed in collegial association by the APAAF (Association for the Promotion of Artists and Craftsmen in Floirac). This workshop opened in 2013 with the aim of sharing premises and know-how, while promoting the personal and artistic creativity of each. The interior spaces evolve according to the needs, departures and new arrivals. To date, the association has about 20 residents exploring various artistic fields: plastic artist, sculptor, painter, metalworker, stained glass artist, ceramist... The workshop 10 is a place of creation but also of exhibition. Often the workshop proposes to other artists to come and expose their creations and thus support them in their personal practice. The workshop is open to the public, so people can freely come to meet the creators.

FABÉcole
Within the framework of FABécole (Partnership between the ESADSE and companies)
I worked with Récyf, a metal recycling company.
I made a range of jewelry, which aims to revalorize the know-how of Récyf. The shapes come from the recycling process of the company: the black garbage cans are collected and burned, everything that does not burn is bought back by the company, sorted, refined and then transformed into raw material.
The company recovers mainly aluminum but also copper, brass and even silver in some cases.
I focused on the notion of enhancement; transforming the "waste" into something valuable.
To reference this process I decided to make jewelry that would have been cast in the heat of the kilns.
One of my pieces was selected by the company and the project is still in progress.
